A couple more low light shots, plus one macro. I don't think I used the night scene mode on the first one, but I did turn off the flash. I was able to rest my hands on the steering wheel for this one so it came out quite clear with no shake.
Second one is of my Averatec notebook in a darkened room. This time the night scene mode is on (which automatically offs the flash). I think this mode will result in the 'painterly' feel that DaveT mentioned.
For the last photo, the N95 lens was about 2 inches (5 cm) from the keyboard. Macro mode on, flash off. I don't think I adjusted the other settings (similarly for the other two), except maybe to change the sharpness from high to normal (for some reason the default is high).
Finally, I have a few pics in my Flickr account by the N95 and of the N95.

Interesting.
I'm a 'wonder what is beeping' kinda guy too. eventually I realise it's the phone starving :-)
I'm planning on getting a solar charger thang.
haha, just don't let my husband hear that, he'd be like "SEE? I'm not the only one!"
Oh, I was just thinking about the night scene mode on the N95... I'm guessing what it does is to increase the ISO and apply agressive noise reduction. Therefore resulting in that smudged look. This is what cameras with small sensors have to do or else the noise will be excessive.
